Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for E-Waste is a government initiative under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022. It ensures that producers, manufacturers, and importers of electrical and electronic equipment take responsibility for collection, recycling, and safe disposal of their products after use. This framework promotes recycling, reduces electronic waste, and safeguards the environment from hazardous substances.
What is EPR E-Waste?
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) regulates EPR E-Waste, which is a mandatory compliance system. It necessitates that producers, brand proprietors, and importers of electronic and electrical commodities responsibly manage their end-of-life products. Businesses must register on the CPCB portal and achieve annual collection and recycling targets through authorized recyclers. This system not only reduces landfill waste but also conserves resources by encouraging reuse and recycling, creating a sustainable electronic waste management ecosystem in India.
